Hello.
Sometimes on our life journey, as we are facing a hill, we find it helpful to find support. I am here because I would like to support you, whether it is a short-term difficult spot you are experiencing or because you feel that you’ve been struggling for a while. Before I became a therapist I was a mathematics teacher and then a college professor who taught people how to teach mathematics. From those careers I learned that everyone is capable of learning mathematics, but some people need different support. I see therapy similarly: All people are able to approach difficulties from new perspectives or with new tools, although sometimes we need help.
The foundation of therapy is building a warm, understanding, professional relationship that helps us feel safe enough to look at our lives. Like so many meaningful things in life, therapy is not always easy. But like completing a workout or finishing a meaningful task, we feel good having done it. Furthermore, I think therapy can be engaging and interesting, something we look forward to because we keep learning something new, or we come to see something old in a new way.
My wife and I raised two children. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, riding my mountain bike, lifting weights, being in the mountains, meditating, and following the Padres (hopefully to winning the World Series!)
I am happy to work with adult individuals, with couples, with children, with teens, and with families. Whether you are a professional, a student, an older person or a younger person, I will make this commitment: I will approach therapy not with judgment, but with curiosity and kindness.
I’ll end with a quote that has been helpful to me: “Be careful how you interpret the world: It is like that.” —Erich Heller (Also attributed to Helen Keller)
